Matthew Corbett (New York, NY) has always loved to cook and is growing his skills and passion in the culinary arts program at Alfred State.
“I chose Alfred State because out of all of the culinary schools this seemed like the fastest and the more efficient way of me getting my degree and get into the workforce.”
Matthew has always been a foodie and has enjoyed creating in the kitchen for his family and friends. He is enjoying the hands-on opportunities he is afforded in the kitchens at Alfred State.
“Within our lab period we are preparing to feed the students of the Wellsville campus. That is around six-hundred students every day. I enjoy being creative and the freedom I have in the kitchen.”
Matthew is not only learning skills in the kitchen but learning how to work with others. “When we work in the Refinery, we serve and prepare food for actual customers. There is actual pressure put on us to serve them and we must work together. I expect myself to do as best as I possibly can.”
The professors have added to Matthew’s experiences at Alfred State. “Every professor has their own personality. They are amazing.”
Matthew dreams of working at a fine dining restaurant after graduation. He had the opportunity to work in a French restaurant last summer. “My experiences at Alfred really did help me work faster and more efficiently. I really do not care where I end up as long as I am cooking at the end of the day. I love the pressure of the kitchen.”
Alfred State has also given Matthew a different experience than his life in the city. “It is slower paced than the city. I really had to get accustomed to it, but I love exploring campus.”
Alfred State helped Matthew find his creativity and he can't wait to share his Culinary Arts.
