Benchich struck out nine and walked just two as he evened up his record at 1-1 on the year.
The game was scoreless until the 7th inning when Yordis Veras (Newtown) walked. After Veras stole second, Kenny O'Brien (Norwalk, CT) was hit by a pitch. A wild pitch moved Veras and O'Brien up a base and Kevin Underhill (Somers) drove home the winning run with a ground out to short. Kelvin Espinosa (George Washington) drove home an insurance run with a single to score O'Brien.
The Pioneers were held to just three hits on the day.
