Tracksters have Big Day at Colgate Invitational

Andy Omoregie (Gates Chili) had a huge day as the Alfred State College indoor track and field team had a strong showing at the Class of '32 Invitational at Colgate University.  Omoregie won two events and helped the men to a 3rd place finish out of 12 teams competing.  The women's team earned an 8th place finish.

Andy Omoregie (Gates Chili) had a huge day as the Alfred State College indoor track and field team had a strong showing at the Class of '32 Invitational at Colgate University.  Omoregie won two events and helped the men to a 3rd place finish out of 12 teams competing.  The women's team earned an 8th place finish.

Omoregie won the high jump competition by setting a new school record.  His leap of 6'6 3/4" breaks the previous record held by Sean Leuze of 6'6".  Omoregie's leap also qualifies him to compete in the NJCAA National Championships to be held at Eastern Illinois University on March 7 & 8.  Omoregie also won the 55 m hurdle competition with a time of 7.95.

Jermaine Thomas (Union Endicott) finished 2nd in the high jump (1.85 m) while Cedric Crowder (Gates Chili) finished 2nd in the 55 m hurdles (8.03).  Thomas also finished 5th in the triple jump (12.44 m). 

Broncho Rollins (Ithaca) finished 3rd in the pole vault (4.25 m), Tyrell Davis (Mt. Vernon) finished 3rd in the shot put (12.82 m), Dan Moriarty (Webster Schroeder) finished 4th in the long jump (6.05 m), Alvin Flemming (Eastridge) finished 4th in the 55 m dash (6.57), Robert Riley (Edison Tech) finished 4th in the 200 m (23.17), Dan Fabiny (Wellsville) finished 5th in the long jump (5.93 m), and Keith Dziak (Buffalo/Bishop Timon) finished 5th in the 400 m (51.75).  

Flemming also finished 6th in the 200 m (23.55) whie Fabiny qualified for Regionals in the 55 m (6.74) and the 200 m (23.83).  Hector Cuero (Middletown) finished 6th in the 500 m (1:09.5), Dan Reynolds (Wayland Cohocton) finished 6th in the pole vault (3.95 m), and Keenan Hall (Monticello) earned 6th place in the shot put (12.82).

Cuero was also part of the distance medley relay team the finished 6th (11:31.75).  He teamed with Michael Kaplan (Tri-Valley), David Phillips (Corcoran), and Zak Williamson (Rocky Point).

Najia McGee (Edison Tech) led the women's side with 3rd place finishes in both the 55 m dash (7.57) and the 200 m (27.30).

The men scored 70 points on the day while the women scored 12.  Colgate won both the men and women titles.

A-State returns to action on Friday evening when they return to RIT to compete in the Black and Orange Invitational.  Action is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
