Tracksters open up season with strong showing

The Alfred State College indoor track & field team started the season off fast with a strong showing at the University of Rochester Invitational.  The Pioneers competed versus 14 different schools in the non-scoring event.

The Alfred State College indoor track & field team started the season off fast with a strong showing at the University of Rochester Invitational.  The Pioneers competed versus 14 different schools in the non-scoring event.

Najia McGee (Edison Tech) finished 2nd in both the 55 m (7.53) and the 200 m (27.08) to pace the women's team.  Reaghan Bulckley (Avoca) finished 5th in the long jump (4.95 m) while the 4 x 200 relay team finished 6th (1:58.72) and the 4 x 400 relay finished 10th (4:53.53). 

On the men's side, Alvin Flemming (Eastridge), Robert Riley (Edison Tech), Keith Dziak (Buffalo/Bishop Timon), and Geoff Kobuszewski (Solvay) teammed up to win the 4 x 200 relay.  Their time of 1:33.75 is 2nd fastest in school history.

Flemming finished 2nd in the 55 m (6.64) and 5th in the 200 m (23.63) while Riley finished 2nd in the 200 m (23.33) and 3rd in the 55 m (6.66).  

Dan Moriarty (Webster Schroeder) finished 2nd in the long jump (6.28 m), Nate Smith (Clymer) finished 5th in the weight throw (12.97), Alex Curran (Williamson) finished 6th in the pole vault (3.95 m), Dziak finished 8th in the 400 m (53.04), and Hector Cuero (Middletown) finished 9th in the 800 m (2:04.22).

ASC returns to action next Saturday when they travel to Hamilton, NY to compete in the Colgate University Invitational.  Events are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
