Chisolm & Septh Named All-American

Alfred State College sophomore football players John Chisolm (Trenton, NJ) and Mike Septh (Monroe Woodbury) have been named NJCAA All-Americans.  Chisolm was named a second team defensive back while Septh was named an honorable mention wide receiver.

Head Coach Mick Caba was pleased to hear of the acknowledgment of his players.  "We are honored to have two players named All-American this year.  Being named All-American is a tremendous way for both John and Mike to close out great careers at Alfred State."

Chisolm made a successful transition to the defensive side of the ball after spending his freshmen year as a wide receiver.  He led the Pioneers and the Northeast Football Conference and was ranked #3 in the NJCAA with nine interceptions.  The nine interceptions set a new ASC single season record.

Chisolm also was credited with 25 tackles (15 solo), 18 pass break-ups, and one fumble recovery.  He also returned an interception for a touchdown and finished with 31 yards on three kick returns.

In the first week of the season, Chisolm was named NJCAA and NFC player of the week following a record breaking four interception contest at Stevens Tech.  He also picked off multiple passes versus the Niagara X-Men and Berean Institute.

Chisolm is just the second Pioneer under Caba to be named 2nd team All-American (Jeff Duggins in 2002).  He will also represent A-State in the inaugural Triumphant Sports Bowl on December 15th.  The Triumphant Sports Bowl will feature NJCAA All-Stars battling California Junior College All-Stars in a game played in Mesa, AZ.

Septh was one of the top wide receivers in the nation.  He caught 44 passes for 925 yards and 12 touchdowns.  He averaged 92.5 yards receiving per game.  He ranked 1st in the NFC and 4th in the NJCAA in receiving yards and ranked 1st in the NFC and 5th in the NJCAA in receiving touchdowns.  He was also ranked 14th in the country in catches and 16th in catches/game.

Septh recorded five 100-yard receiving games on the season.  He also scored multiple touchdowns in four games including three touchdown catches in a victory over SUNY Brockport JV. 

Septh's 925 yards fell just short of the ASC single season record of 927 yards by Mark Wolfe in 2002.  He finishes his career at Alfred State with 61 catches for 1,301 yards and 14 scores.  He averaged 21.3 yards per reception and 68.5 yards per game.

Chisolm and Septh were both selected 1st team All-NFC earlier in the season.  They were joined on the All-American team by six other Northeast Football Conference players.

"John and Mike both put together great years for us.  John was a pleasant surprise seeing he moved to corner back from the offensive side of the ball.  Mike proved he was a major college talent with his accomplishments on the field.  Both should be able to have great careers at the next level." 

Under Coach Caba, the Pioneers now have had seven NJCAA All-Americans.  This is only the second year that a pair of Pioneers have been honored (Lennox Norville & Codera Jackson were both named honorable mention All-Americans in 2004).
