New Academic hirings and appointments.

Several new faculty members have
joined the Alfred State College community.

Among the new hires announced in
the Academic Affairs Division were Wayne Beckemeyer, Dawn Bennett, Wayne
Bensley, Mary Boyer, Marlee Cannon, Gerald Ives, Terry Jackson, Steven Jacobi,
Stephen Kielar, Christina King, Matthew Lawrence, Mark Payne, and Jacob Yoder.

Beckemeyer, Wellsville, has been
hired as an adjunct professor at ASC's School of Applied
Technology. Beckemeyer holds a bachelor of arts
degree from Park University
(Parkville, MO) and an associate in occupational
studies.

Bennett, Fillmore, has re-joined
the veterinary technology faculty where she teaches radiology, anesthesia, and
surgical nursing as well as small animal pathophysiology of disease.  Bennett has owned and operated Daisy Hill
Veterinary Service since 1985 and has served as an instructor for pet first aid
courses for Alfred State College and the Red Cross.  Bennett holds a doctor of veterinary medicine
degree from Tufts University (MA) and a bachelor of science degree in biology
from Wells College
(Aurora). She
is the founder and past president (1987-92) of the Town Theatre of Short Tract
and has served as chair of the board of trustees of Short Tract
Methodist Church
(1998-2001).  The Fillmore Central
School graduate is the
daughter of Jay and Sophia Stevens of Hunt. 
She and her husband Thomas are the parents of Adam and Daniel, both at
home.

Bensley, Alfred Station, has been
hired as an assistant professor in the Physical and Life Sciences Department where
he teaches chemistry.   Prior to joining
the ASC faculty, Bensley served as a forensic scientist at the Marion County
Forensic Services Agency, Indianapolis
and as an analytical chemist, Stillbrook Environmental Testing Laboratory. He
holds a master of science degree in forensic science from the University of Alabama
at Birmingham
and a bachelor of arts degree from Syracuse University.
He is a member of the American
Academy of Forensic
Sciences and the Midwestern Association of Forensic Scientists.

The Sherburne-Earlville High
School graduate is the son of David and Diane
Bensley, Earlville; he is married to the former Julia Stevens.  They are the parents of Jennifer, at home.

Boyer, Rochester, has been hired as an assistant
professor in the Computer Imaging and Architectural Engineering Technology
Department where she teaches animation. 
Prior to joining the ASC faculty, Boyer taught at Mercer
County Community
College, Trenton,
NJ; and at Rochester Institute of
Technology.  She holds a master of fine
arts degree from RIT and a bachelor of science from Towson University (MD).

The Hammonton (NJ) High School
graduate is the daughter of Phillip and Barbara Zinno, Hammonton, NJ;
she is married to Jason Boyer.

Cannon, Wellsville, has been
appointed the student disability services counselor and peer tutor coordinator
for the School of
Applied Technology
campus.  Prior to joining the ASC
community, Cannon was a special education teacher at Whitesville
Central School
and an elementary teacher at Wellsville
Central School. 

Cannon holds a master of science
degree in reading and a bachelor of arts degree in elementary education, both
from Alfred University.

The Whitesville Central
School graduate is the
daughter of Leo and Marion Johnson, Wellsville. 
She is married to Brian Cannon; they are the parents of two grown sons.

Ives, Wellsville, has been hired as
an assistant professor in the Automotive Trades Department at the School of Applied Technology, where he teaches
courses in the recently instituted automotive parts technology program.  Prior to joining the ASC faculty, Ives served
as the lead trainer and store manager at Carquest Auto Supply and as an adjunct
professor at Onondaga
Community College.  He holds master and bachelor degrees in music
from Syracuse University.

The Onondaga Central
School graduate is the
son of the late Helen and Allan Ives.  He
is married to the former Joan DeGroat; they are the parents of four children.

Jackson, Alfred Station, has been
hired as the instructional support assistant in the Culinary Arts Department of the School of Applied
Technology where he helps to oversee and instruct students in the cafeteria, and orders supplies for
the Culinary Arts dining facilities. 
Prior to joining the ASC community, Jackson
served as head chef at Club 57, Hornell, and as production manager at Alfred University.  He holds an associate of occupational studies
degree in culinary arts from Alfred State College.

This Alfred-Almond Central
School graduate is the
son of Sharon Jackson, Alfred; he is the father of 10-year old Natasha.

Jacobi, Williamsville, has been
hired as an instructor in the Automotive Trades Department on the School of Applied Technology campus where he
teaches diesel fuel injection and diesel engine rebuilding.  Prior to joining the ASC faculty, Jacobi
managed the fuel injection department and diesel machine shop at Fleet Maintenance Inc., West Seneca, for 22 years.

The North Tonawanda Senior High
School graduate is the son of Jack and Barb
Jacobi, North Tonawanda.  He is married to the former Josephine Arnone;
they are the parents of two adult daughters, Maria and Amanda.

Kielar, Olean, has been hired as an assistant
professor in the Electrical/Electronic Service Department at the School of Applied Technology campus where he
teaches freshman electrical and construction courses.  He holds an AOS degree in electrical/electronic
service-construction and maintenance electrician from Alfred State College.

The Hinsdale Central
School graduate is the
son of Carol Kielar and the late Joseph Kielar. 
He is married to the former Danielle McFadden; they are the parents of
three young children.

King, Alfred, has been hired as the
peer tutor coordinator for the Learning
Center, where she will
recruit, hire, train and supervise peer tutors and notetakers.  She holds a master of science degree in
counselor education from Syracuse University and a bachelor of arts degree in
psychology from Alfred
University.

The Alfred-Almond Central
School graduate is the
daughter of Charles and Ellen Shultz, Almond. 
She is married to Wesley King; they are the parents of two young
children.

Lawrence, Angelica, has been hired as an
assistant professor in the Mechanical Engineering Technology Department where he teaches courses
in manufacturing processes and machine design. 
Prior to joining the ASC faculty, Lawrence
served as a graduate assistant at Penn
State University;
an engineer for Cisco Systems, Herndon, VA; and a territory manager for Parker Hannifin, Clovis, CA.

Lawrence holds a PhD and an MS in
agricultural and biological engineering from Penn State University and a BS in agricultural
engineering, also from Penn
State University.

The Tunkhannock Area (PA) High
School graduate is the son of Gifford and Jane Lawrence, Tunkhannock, PA.  He is married to the former Renee Rouse; they
are the parents of one young son.

Payne, Canisteo, has been hired as
an instructor in the Building Trades Department where he will teach courses in
heavy equipment operations.  Prior to
joining the ASC faculty, Payne worked for the NYS Department of Transportation
and the Greater Southern Tier BOCES. The Canisteo Junior-Senior
High School graduate is
the son of Barry and Cindy Payne, Canisteo. 
He is married to the former Sarah Martin; they are the parents of two children,
still at home.

Yoder, Bath, has been hired as an assistant
professor in the Civil Engineering Technology Department.  Yoder also serves as the principal engineer
for Yoder Engineering, a structural consulting firm.  Prior to joining the ASC faculty, he also
served as a math teacher at Hillside Children's Center, Snell Farm Campus; and
as a structural design engineer at Hunt Engineers, Architects, and Surveyors.

Yoder holds master and bachelor
degrees in civil engineering from Brigham
Young University.

The Haverling (Bath) High School graduate is the son of
Charles and Nancy Yoder, Bath.  He is married to the former Tiffany Bailey; they
are the parents of five young children.

Other new fall 2007 academic hires include Janet Curley,
assistant professor, Nursing; Lawrence Pogorzala, instructor, Culinary Arts;
David Carli, lecturer, CIAET; Gloria Schubert, lecturer, Social and Behavioral
Sciences Department.

Additionally, several faculty
members have assumed administrative responsibilities in addition to, or in lieu
of, their teaching duties.  Included
among these, are

Craig R. Clark, Alfred, executive
director of the Wellsville campus and dean of the School of Applied
Technology, has been serving in the role of
interim vice president for academic affairs.

James R. Jerla, Alma, associate
professor and chair, Electrical/Electronic Service Department, has added the
responsibilities of interim dean of the School of Applied
Technology to his duties.

John Buckwalter, Alfred Station, SUNY Distinguished Teaching
Professor and chair, Physical and Life Sciences Department, has assumed the
role of interim dean of the School
of Arts and Sciences,
while Michael Putnam, professor, Physical and Life Sciences Department, has
assumed the responsibilities as interim chair. Additionally, Michael Case,
Scio, and Francine Staba, Wellsville, have been named the chairs of their
departments, Electrical Engineering Technology, Business Technology,
respectively.  Deborah Goodrich, Alfred
Station, has been named the associate vice president for enrollment management;
Neil Benedict, Wellsville, has been named the associate vice president for
student affairs; Dr. James Bryan has been named an associate vice president;
and Dr. Dan Barwick, Dansville, has been named interim director of
Institutional Advancement & Sponsored Programs.
