Starting with the AAS, you’ll build a strong foundation in math, science, and modern surveying tools while learning to solve technical problems in land measurement and mapping. Advancing into the BS, you’ll expand into advanced applications of GPS, GIS, total stations, and drafting software, gaining ABET-accredited credentials that open doors to careers in government, industry, and the private sector.

CIVL1021: Civl Eng Tech 1st Yr Exp

Credits: 1

This course helps prepare students for academic success and career exploration. Introduction to the diversity of opportunities in the civil engineering technology field, including design, geomatics and construction will be explored through industry guest lectures. Campus tools for success are discussed as well as planning for graduation.

CIVL1204: Surveying I

Credits: 0-4

This course is a study of the fundamentals of construction surveying. Emphasis is on the use and care of various types of surveying equipment, note keeping, basic surveying calculations and adjustment of data. The course is designed to introduce measurement techniques through applications in an outdoor laboratory environment.

COMP1503: Writing Studies

Credits: 3

The purpose of Writing Studies is to equip students with rhetorical reading and writing skills necessary for college, the workplace, and beyond. Focusing on the negotiations between authors, texts, and media, students reflect on their own writing practices in context of course readings and independent research. Emphasis is on using instructor and peer feedback to develop effective writing habits, including pre-writing, drafting, revising, editing, proofreading, and documenting sources.

If students do not place into MATH 1033 College Algebra, MATH 1084 Calculus I, MATH 1323 Quantitative Reasoning, MATH 1034 College Algebra of Functions, MATH 1054 Precalculus, or MATH 2124 Statistical Methods & Analysis, then MATH 1014 Algebra Concepts is a required prerequisite for completion of the major.

If students do not place into PHYS 1024 General Physics I or PHYS 1044 College Physics I, then PHYS 1014 Introductory Physics is a required prerequisite for completion of this major.
