Dr. Richard Kellogg, professor emeritus of psychology at Alfred State College, is the author of a new book titled “Barry Baskerville and the Rare Coin.” This is the tenth entry in a popular series of mysteries for children and is available on Amazon. The story is illustrated in color by noted Hawaiian artist, Gary Kato.
As in earlier entries, young Barry idolizes Sherlock Holmes and aspires to become a famous detective. He searches for clues with a magnifying glass and likes to wear a deerstalker hat. The precocious youngster often irritates his teachers and classmates with his riddles and puzzles.
In “Barry Baskerville and the Rare Coin,” the Baskerville family is enjoying a vacation at the country fair during Barry's summer break from school. Barry is thrilled to ride on the Ferris wheel while devouring hot dogs and cotton candy. Barry's father, a history teacher at Watsonville High School, plans to purchase some rare coins for his collection. Unfortunately, some of the coins for sale prove to be fraudulent. Barry must use all his skills of observation and deduction to detect the fake coins and prevent his family from being cheated.
Kellogg is the author of three books about Sherlock Holmes and the Barry Baskerville series of mysteries for children. He frequently reviews books in the mystery and science-fiction genres for Paperback Parade and The New York Review of Science Fiction.
