Two masonry seniors enrolled in Alfred State College's School of Applied Technology masonry program were recently awarded the Southern Tier Concrete Products, Inc., Achievement Award for Excellence in the trowel trades. This year’s winners, Keenan Thayer, Middletown, RI, and Randy Todd, Warsaw, each received $300 checks presented by Charles Jessup, (far left) business manager, and Ben Palmer, (far right) owner, Southern Tier Concrete Products, Inc., Alfred. Additionally, Thayer and Todd have been chosen to accompany a group of Alfred State College faculty and students to Haiti, where they will use their masonry skills to rebuild a medical clinic that had been destroyed during the devastating January earthquake. Southern Tier Concrete Products has long been involved in the masonry program at the college. Its contributions of technical support, materials, tools, and training aids as well as scholarships, are greatly appreciated by the college in helping it produce graduates with the necessary skills to succeed in the trade.
