Alfred State’s clean energy certificate helps you build hands-on skills for the buildings and energy systems of the future. You'll explore practical training in renewable energy, HVAC and heat pump technology, solar and wind systems, EV charging, battery storage, geothermal systems, building automation, energy efficiency, and facility operations. This certificate is designed to support entry into clean energy and smart building careers.
You're not being trained for only one technology. You'll gain a broad foundation across electrical systems, HVAC and heat pumps, solar and wind, geothermal, lighting controls, building envelope efficiency, EV charging, battery storage, microgrids, energy auditing, and system integration.
Skills You'll Learn
The program is built around demand for workers who understand both traditional building systems and newer clean energy technologies. It specifically responds to New York State’s transition toward a clean energy economy and the need for technicians who can operate, install, maintain, and troubleshoot advanced energy systems.
Hands-on learning in a Smart Commercial Building lab
A major highlight for students is the hands-on lab environment. The program is designed to use a Smart Commercial Building / Clean Technology Lab with renewable and building systems such as solar PV, solar thermal, wind, geothermal, EV charging, building controls, and monitoring systems.
Employer-Informed Curriculum
Our clean energy certificate was developed in response to needs identified by Northland and regional industry partners. Partners include National Grid, NYPA, NOCO, Wendel Engineering, Buffalo Solar, Viridi Parente, Zenobē, Eaton, Lynn Critical Infrastructure, and Montante Development.
