My name is Tyler Petery. I am from Schwanksville, Pennsylvania, and I am majoring in Cyber Security.
I chose Alfred State because of the Cyber Security program and, uh, also the athletic opportunity that I had with baseball here. Um, the Cyber Security program is, uh, well regarded, and it allowed me to play baseball and get a good education at the same time.
The main thing that I really loved about this program was it was very hands-on. There were a lot of technical skills that I had no idea about coming into here, that I learned through my classes and through my professors.
My favorite part of the program was, uh, the analysis classes that we had. Those analysis classes really helped me find my passion within Cyber Security for what I wanted to do.
A lot of the lab time is spent in groups. So you’ll have your group that you typically work with, and then you can also go up and, if you have any questions or you don’t fully understand a topic, you can go and ask your professor. They are always willing to sit down, help you understand it, and, you know, simplify it so that it is easier to digest.
Being a student-athlete here at Alfred State is definitely a rewarding, um, experience. This school places a large emphasis on students coming first, so all of the coaches—they are willing to work with you around your class schedule, and they understand that we are here to learn first.
But, um, being a part of the baseball team has been easily my favorite time here. The best part about Alfred State is definitely the people. Um, when I know that when I look back on my time in college in 10–20 years, the number one thing that I’m going to remember is the friends that I made here.
Alfred State has helped me break the code and secure my career.

Hi, my name is Ashley Bayer. I’m from Alid, Pennsylvania, and I’m in the Marketing BBA program.
I chose Alfred State because it’s close to home, affordable, and the staff care about their students. Since I live in Pennsylvania, I don’t pay the same out-of-state that I would for any other New York school. I got the Freeway Scholarship for out-of-state. This helped my decision because it made it more affordable than even going in-state.
Through my first year at Alfred, I took classes that led me into the consumer mind and behaviors, which led me into the Marketing program. So I would encourage students to come to Alfred State for Marketing.
When I was younger and in high school, I took an Entrepreneurship class. This helped me understand that I wanted to own my own business. The classes that I have taken so far have given me a foundation of what I want to do in my future career.
One of my favorite things is taking my Business Communication class. This class helps me learn how to communicate with other companies and consumers.
My favorite thing about Alfred State’s campus is how inclusive and friendly all of the students and staff are, where I feel comfortable every day—just like I’m at home.
At Alfred State, I’m learning the tools to market my career.
