Lady Pioneers Crack In to Top Ten

The Alfred State College women's soccer team has cracked into the NJCAA Division III poll for the first time of the season and the first time in Coach Anne Holmok's tenure at the helm of the program.  The Lady Pioneers debut in the poll at the #9 spot after a solid three week stretch that has seen the team go unbeaten in their last six matches.

The Alfred State College women's soccer team has cracked into the NJCAA Division III poll for the first time of the season and the first time in Coach Anne Holmok's tenure at the helm of the program.  The Lady Pioneers debut in the poll at the #9 spot after a solid three week stretch that has seen the team go unbeaten in their last six matches.

This past week the Blue and Gold was 2-0-1.  They downed Genesee CC 4-1 on Tuesday, tied #1 ranked Broome CC 1-1 on Thursday, and defeated Niagara CCC 5-0 on Saturday.  They added a 2-0 victory over JCC-Olean last evening to improve to 7-2-1 overall and 6-2-1 in Region III Division III play.

Jessie Smith (Fredonia) and Brittany Hannah (Eastridge) have led the scoring attack with nine goals each.  The Lady Pioneers have ten different players that have recorded goals on the year.  Meghan Lowell (Keshequa) has been steady in net with a 1.21 goals against average with Audrey Rath (Medina), Jacquelyn Matteson (Greece Arcadia), and Emma Pollok (Fredonia) playing well on defense.

Other Region III schools in the poll this week included: #1 Broome CC, #5 Finger Lakes CC, and #10 Herkimer CCC.

The Lady Pioneers return to action on Thursday when they travel to Erie CC (Orchard Park campus) for a 5 p.m. contest with the Lady Kats.
