Seventeen teams competed at the sixth annual Alfred State Open organized by the Class of 1978 and the Buffalo Alumni Chapter at the Springville Country Club. The team of Bret Llewellyn, ’80, Patrick Stanchak, John Fox, ’83, and Rob Brado won the tournament with a score of 59 (12 under).
“This event is always so much fun,” commented Director of Scholarships and College Relations Mary Perkins. “We had a great day on a beautiful course. It was especially fitting to see Bret and his team take top honors. He has been such an important part of the Alfred Open planning committee and has played a pivotal role in making this event a success year after year.”
The event raised $3,492 for the Buffalo Alumni Scholarship and $1,188 for the Class of 1978 Endowment Fund.
Madison Szpaicher, ’17, was the winner of the raffle, which raised $860, for a spot on the Mary Huntington Plaque.
Perkins continued, “Each year, this event continues to grow and get better. We are incredibly thankful to Buffalo Best Bakery and Hamburg Brewing for their support this year. It is rewarding to see such a great group of people come together to have fun while raising scholarship dollars that directly support our students.”
The event started in 2021 with seven teams and continues to grow each year. Alfred State alums, employees, friends, and supporters have gathered to support the cause.
