Thirty-three teams enjoyed gorgeous weather at the 12th annual Pioneers Drive for the Development Fund golf tournament held at the Wellsville Country Club. The event presented by Mach Architecture raised more than $25,000 in cash and gifts in kind for Alfred State.

“The Alfred State College Pioneer Drive supports all of our initiatives, mainly athletics, but also the Pioneer Fund and scholarships for students,” commented Director of Annual Giving and Alumni Relations John Lewis. “You see a lot of people here who are support Alfred State year in and year out.”
Jack Wolff, ’19, played with his college roommate Brock Krayna, ’19, in the tournament. “It’s nice to come back and see everybody. You see a lot of the same people every year and it is nice to support the college. The college has done so much for both of us, it helped us get our careers started.”
The team represented by ToyotaLift Northeast- Bill Maerlender, Dan Benson, Shane Gleason, and Kyle Norton shot a 58 to win the tournament. Team Maple City Financial Services- Raymie Auman, Bobby Sellers, ’24, Jordan Wonderling, ’17, and Nick Biedakiewicz finished second (60) while the team of Dennis Ferris, ’70, John Ryan, ‘74, James Stuart, ’83, and Brian Vanmortal was third (62). The top three teams took home $500, $300, and $200, respectively.
In addition, the tournament featured numerous silent auction items, over eighty door prizes, several skills prizes, and the day ended with a barbecue.
Proceeds from the event will help fund student scholarships, athletics, and other needs of the college.

Eagle sponsors ($1,000) included C.P. Ward, Stark Tech, and UA Local #13 Plumbers & Steamfitters,
Contest sponsors ($500) were ToyotaLift Northeast, Koike Aronson, Corning Inc., and Barre Stone Products.
Additionally, the event featured eighteen hole sponsors ($150).
Plans are in motion for a return to Wellsville Country Club in June 2027.
