Nine students inducted into SALUTE Honor Society

Alfred State celebrated Veterans for their success in and out of the classroom at the SALUTE Honor Society induction ceremony.

The Alfred State College (ASC) chapter of SALUTE, the National Veterans Honor Society, inducted nine students and one staff member in their 2026 induction ceremony. 

SALUTE (Service, Academics, Leadership, Unity, Tribute, Excellence) recognizes academic achievement of student veterans in both two- and four-year institutions of higher education.

To qualify for induction undergraduate students must meet the following criteria:

  • Be currently enrolled as a student.
  • Qualify as a military/veteran student under locally derived and maintained definitions.
  • Earn a GPA that fits one of four different tiers: Alpha Tier (3.75-4.0 GPA), Bravo Tier (3.50-3.74), Charlie Tier (3.25-3.49), and Delta Tier (3.00-3.24).
  • Have served or are currently serving in the military, National Guard, or reserves.
  • Maintain the highest ethical standards.

Meet the Inductees:

  • Justin Denny served in the Army and was inducted into the Bravo tier
  • Ray Lee Smith served in the Army and was inducted into the Bravo tier
  • Derrick Knight served in the Marine Corps (USMC) and was inducted into the Alpha tier
  • Alexander LeClerc served in the Army and was inducted into the Alpha tier
  • Arlin Ramirez served in the Army and was inducted into the Charlie tier
  • Jeremy Pearsall served in the Army and was inducted into the Charlie tier
  • Amos Turner served in the Air Force and was inducted into the Alpha tier
  • Raki Saheed served in the Army and was inducted into the Delta tier
  • Richard Rochester served in the Army and was inducted into the Delta tier.

Joann Bloxsom, Assistant Registrar, was also inducted. She served in the Army and will become a co-advisor to the group.

SALUTE advisor Melanie Ryan served as emcee and inducted the new class. The students were awarded a certificate, honors cords, SALUTE pin, and a challenge coin.

The Alfred chapter of SALUTE started in 2015.
