The Alfred State logging sports team hosted their annual home meet and had several strong team performances. The Open team took the top spot while the Men’s team finished second out of six teams.
The Open team of Owen Ryan, Simon Warner, Alex McCarthy, Riana Barron, Nick Constabile, and Jesse Tompkins took the top spot in team bowsaw, crosscut, and pulptoss. They won singles single buck, stocksaw, super swede, and axe throw while in doubles they won the crosscut to hell competition. They finished the competition with 1,351.4849 points and were over 100 points ahead of second place.
In the men’s competition, the team of Jesse Rawlings, Blake Stewart, Lucas Barr, Owen Wolfanger, Nathan Alexander, and Jacob Behrend racked up 1,333.4709 points and finished only three points behind the top team from Paul Smith’s College. In singles, ASC was first in super swede, and triathlon while in triples they were tops in splitting. In the team portion they were first in bowsaw, crosscut, and packboard.
Alfred State’s second open team was third with 1,1125.3858 points. The team consisted of Amelia Shattuck, Austin Dickinson, Joshua Dalfonso, Charlie Caskey, Hollis Frost, and Quinn Blair.
“It was a great performance at our home meet,” commented Coach Scott Bingham. “I am proud of our effort, and I look forward to our upcoming spring schedule. Our men’s team was only a couple seconds in any given event from winning and our second Open team is showing lots of promise.”
Competitors from Paul Smith’s College, Finger Lakes CC, and SUNY ESF traveled to Alfred for the event.
Alfred State will next compete at Finger Lakes CC on April 11 before heading to the championships in Syracuse, April 25-26.
