NYS Charitable Tax Credit Program
Make a powerful impact at Alfred State College — and benefit from tax savings.
This fall, make a charitable gift to the SUNY Alfred State Development Fund to support students, programs, existing funds, or other causes that reflect your philanthropic goals. Eligible gifts may also qualify for extraordinary state tax credits through the New York State Charitable Tax Credit Program, administered by the SUNY Impact Foundation. Created to encourage philanthropy across New York, the program enables eligible donors to maximize both their charitable impact and their state tax benefits.
New York State
85% Tax Credit & 15% Deduction
Donors will get a 85% tax credit on the qualified contribution AND a 15% deduction of the qualified contribution on their NYS tax filing.
Federal
15% Deduction
15% of the qualified contribution can be a deduction against federal income tax.
Donors should consult a qualified tax professional to determine how these benefits apply to their situation.
Application for NYS Charitable Tax Credit Program
You must submit an application. Applications can be submitted online through Sept. 30, 2026. Once the application has been submitted, the SUNY Impact Foundation will issue an acknowledgment of application.
Donations under the NYS Charitable Tax Credit Program are limited to a minimum of $10,000 and a maximum of $100,000 per donor, per tax filing.
What are the important dates?
Please note the credit cannot roll forward into a future tax year, nor can it fulfill previous tax obligations.
Authorization & Payment
After Oct. 1, the SUNY Impact Foundation will send the donor an authorization certificate that includes the authorized donation amount and payment instructions. Payment must be received by Nov. 30, 2026.
If all applications received exceed $10 million, the SUNY Impact Foundation will prorate all requests. For example, if donors submit a total of $20 million in applications, then every donor’s approved contribution amount will be reduced by 50%.
Gifts Distributed to SUNY Alfred State Development Fund
At the completion of the program, the SUNY Impact Foundation will distribute the gifts received to the SUNY Alfred State Development Fund.
