Students from across Western New York came to Alfred State to compete in the Skills USA Region I competition. This is the 37th time Alfred State has hosted the event.
Nearly 800 students competed in forty-eight different competitions that were held on both the Alfred and Wellsville campuses. Students arrived on campus and competed versus students from twenty -one different schools. The top performers advance to the NY State competition with a chance to compete at the Nationals in June (Atlanta, GA).
“This event is always one of the highlights of the year for me,” said Alfred State Professor Emeritus and event coordinator Mike Ronan. “Our long-standing partnership with SkillsUSA makes it especially rewarding to welcome students competing on both campuses. Congratulations to everyone who took part, and best wishes to those moving on to the New York State competition.”
On the Alfred campus, contests included advertising design, cosmetology, job demo, and house of delegates while on the Wellsville campus students participated in carpenter’s assistant, culinary arts, masonry, and small engine basic competitions.
