As the world celebrates Valentine’s Day this weekend, we asked Alfred State alumni to share their love stories.
Kyle and Jennifer met in 2012 in Peet Hall. Jennifer bought a floor lamp and needed help, and her roommate found Kyle on the 4th floor, and he helped fix the lamp. They immediately became friends and started dating on March 29, 2013. They will celebrate nine years of marriage in May and have two children. The lamp that brought them together sits in the kid’s playroom today.
John and Jennifer met in 2004 in Shults Hall when they lived kiddy corner and became best friends. Twenty years later the pair ran into each other at the Erie County Fair and started talking every day and realized they loved each other all those years ago and now they are starting to fall in love with one another again.
Jason and Megan met in 1996 in the Culinary Arts: Baking Production program. They graduated in 1999 and got married in 2000. Currently their twins are first year students at Alfred State.
Stephen and Susan met in 2017 while Susan was working on her final art project for her Foundations Class. A fellow student (Austin) kept bringing friends into the studio and eventually brought in Stephen. Both were close to speechless and felt something magical in the brief interaction. Started dating in 2018 and are getting married in June with Austin serving as Stephen’s best man.
Marc and Kathy met while studying at Alfred State. Kathy is currently an Veterinary Technology Associate Professor at Alfred State and the couple were introduced to each other by current faculty members Travis Armison and Pat (MacDonald) Eshelman.
Matt and his fiancée Lily met at Alfred in 2018 and got engaged at the end of 2025. Matt earned a degree in Architecture while Lilly graduated in Veterinary Technology. The two had the opportunity to study abroad in Italy while at Alfred.
Connor and Victoria met at Alfred State in 2022.
Brandon and Megan went to high school and started dating two months before graduation. They did not know they were both heading to Alfred State. They have been together for fifteen years and married for five.
Andy and Maria met at Alfred State and graduated in 2014.
Troy and Megan met in 2014, started dating in 2015 and were married in 2021. Troy was active in intramurals and Megan was on the basketball teams and they met through their group of friends.
Jahvon and Alexis met at a pizza/dance party in the Pioneer Center in 2017. Married in 2025 and welcome their baby in 2025.
James and Rachel met in 2017 when they shared a simple moment with mutual friends on the Terrace. Rachel graduated in 2020 (Human Services Management) and James in 2021 (Mechanical Engineering Technology). The couple weathered long distance relationship and the uncertainty of COVID. Married in 2022 and purchased first home in North Syracuse. Alfred State remains sacred ground to them as the place where their paths intertwined and their story began.
Justin and Steph met in 2009 and were in Greek life together (Pi Rho Zeta and Pi Nu Epsilon).
Shawn and Amanda met in 2003 in Shults Hall. Now they have two teenage boys, one (a junior) is interested in Alfred State.
Elijah and Avery met at GJ’s and have been inseparable for almost four years. Avery graduated in Nursing and Elijah studied welding and automotive tech.
Kevin and Ashley met in 2009 through mutual friends at Peet Hall. They started dating in 2010 and have been together ever since. Ashley followed her older brother to ASC (who met his now wife at Alfred as well). She graduated from Culinary Arts: Baking Production and Kevin graduated as a construction engineer.
Mar-Keice and Dezire met before attending Alfred State and after touring the campus together officially started dating on July 22, 2016.
Alex and Crystal met at Alfred State almost ten years ago. Alex found Crystal on a dating app and they arranged to meet in a freshmen parking lot. That started the relationship that has led to marriage and the building of their dream home.
