The Alfred State College baseball team was swept by Monroe CC in a WNYAC doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.  The Tribunes won the opener 6-0 and collected 20 hits in the nightcap en route to a 19-5 victory.

The Alfred State College baseball team was swept by Monroe CC in a WNYAC doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.  The Tribunes (6-0, 6-0 WNYAC) won the opener 6-0 and collected 20 hits in the nightcap en route to a 19-5 victory.

In the opener, three Tribune pitchers combined on a two-hitter while the MCC offense collected ten hits.  Steve Muoio led Monroe with a 3 for 4, 2 RBI performance.  The Tribunes scored two in the 1st, one in the 5th, and three in the 6th.  Rueben Angeles (George Washington) and Kelvin Espinosa (George Washington) each collected singles for ASC.

Alfred held a 4-3 lead heading into the bottom of the 2nd in the nightcap but the Tribunes erupted for three runs in the 2nd, four runs in the 3rd, and nine runs in the 4th to blow the game open.  Four Tribunes finished with three hits and three had three or more RBI.

Kenny O'Brien (Norwalk, CT) led the Pioneers offense with a 1 for 3 day.  He drove in three runs, including two on a two-run double in the 2nd inning.

The Blue and Gold (5-3, 4-2 WNYAC) will look to bounce back tomorrow when they travel to Erie CC for a 1 p.m. doubleheader with the Kats.
