A group of around 125 participants gathered to serve the Alfred community at the annual Fall Day of Service. Groups made up of Alfred State students and staff, Alfred University students and staff, and community members were able to work on ten projects.
Projects included street, creek, and trail clean-ups, fall leaf cleanup at Mike Kenyon Village Playground and community members homes, landscaping and planting around the village entrances, painting a shed at the Atelier Community Arts and Ceramic Studio, assisting at the Alfred Montesorri School, A.E. Crandall Hook & Ladder Co., and at the Alfred Community Garden.
Alfred State participants included members of intercollegiate athletic teams, club sport teams, Greek life, and clubs and organizations from across campus.
"I continue to feel inspired by all the ways our tiny community shows up for one another,” commented Director of Global Engagement and Civic Wellbeing Cyan Corwine. “The Day of Service had a successful fourth year because of collaboration and cooperation across various members of our community, and I look forward to keeping this initiative growing alongside everyone.”
Mums were also delivered to many local businesses, sponsored by the Vice President of Student and Employee Affairs, to thank them for being bright spots in the community.
Corwine encourages community members to reach out to her (civicengagement@alfredstate.edu) if they have idea for project locations or leads for next year.
