Hunter Copp (Corning, NY) chose Alfred State's Game and Interactive Design program because it offered a unique opportunity to turn his lifelong passion for gaming and storytelling into a career.
"I've always loved video games, creativity, and telling stories. This program gave me the opportunity to explore those interests and discover exactly what I want to do."
Hunter appreciates the program's project-based approach. Students develop games, present their work, receive feedback, and collaborate with classmates to improve their projects.
"Every class is about creating something, sharing it, and making it better. You're constantly learning how to give feedback, accept feedback, and work as part of a team."
Hunter has served as the team lead on a student game development project, where he pitched the original concept and now works with classmates to bring the game to life.
"It really feels like working in the industry. Everyone has a role, and we're all working together to create the best game possible."
He credits the faculty for fostering a supportive and collaborative culture. "The professors are always willing to help. They feel like part of the team and genuinely care about helping students succeed."
Hunter earned an associate degree at a community college and while exploring career options, he discovered that a traditional information technology path was not the right fit and began searching for a program that better matched his creative interests.
"I thought transferring would be stressful, but Alfred State made the process incredibly easy. Everyone was willing to help, answer questions, and make sure I stayed on track."
Hunter hopes to launch his own independent game studio and create games that entertain, inspire, and connect people through meaningful stories and positive experiences.
"This program has allowed me to take something I've loved my whole life and transform it into something I can build a future around."
Alfred State has unlocked new levels and powered up Hunter’s future.
