Alfred State College’s Center for Academic Resources and Excellence (CARE) has been awarded certification as a Level 1 certified tutor training program by the internationally recognized College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA).
Alfred State offers multiple different ways for students to find tutoring services. From peer 1:1 tutoring to supplemental instruction sessions, the tutoring and academic support team works to offer support for most classes. The office also coordinates tutoring labs in Math & Engineering, Science, Writing, and all the SAT after school tutoring.
“It is amazing testament to the work the team has done to earn this certification,” commented Dean of Academic Support and Student Success Francine Staba. “Our team continues to help students find success in the classroom and labs and I am proud of their efforts and look forward to collaborating with them to help even more students as we enter the new school year.”
For more than thirty years CRLA has been a leader in learning assistance, reading, and academic support programs with almost 1,300 members and over 2,000 certified training programs worldwide.
CARE has worked to develop a tutor training program that meets CRLA’s rigorous standards and has successfully completed the International Tutor Training Program Certification (ITTPC) peer review process. Achieving certification means that CARE has met CRLA’s high standards for tutor selection, training, direct service, and evaluation as an integral part of their overall tutoring program.
