Justin Nix (Lake George, NY) hopes to put the skills he is learning in his business administration classes at Alfred State to use to make others’ lives better.
A visit to see a friend started his journey at Alfred. “I had a friend here and he was telling me all about campus. He had me come up and I really fell in love with the campus when I visited.”
The family construction company led Justin to study business. “I want to help out my family and become more experienced.”
Hands-on experiences like creating his own business or a consumer behavior project for a local restaurant have built confidence. “These experiences are preparing me for the jobs I am going to have. Being able to talk openly and hearing what they want and need really help me prepare when I open my own business.”
Justin added, “My favorite part of my major is the professors. They are very friendly and personal. They ask if you need anything and you can always talk to them. They have a lot of personal experience so with that knowledge it’s a great to learn from them.”
A part-time job back home has developed a passion to help others. “I am an activities person. I make sure the clients are having a fun time and they feel wanted. The goal is to bring joy to people and make them happy.”
Getting involved outside his learning in the classroom has broadened Justin’s friend group and overall college experiences. During his time at Alfred State he has been involved in a soccer league, served as the treasurer for an architecture club, joined the paranormal club, and recently became a member of the new American Marketing Association club for business majors.
“The friend group I created here has made my experience even better, we really are a tight-knit group. We get together to watch movies and have dinner. Not only do I have friends in the classroom, but I also have friends in different clubs. It’s a great community to be part of.”
The views around campus are Justin’s favorite part of Alfred State. “I’m a nature fan. I like to go out on hikes. There are always trails around and I really do love the view. It’s so beautiful here.”
Alfred State has helped Justin learn how to help others.
