The Alfred State College (ASC) Health Information Technology program has been recognized as a “Program of Distinction” by the Commission of Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM).
CAHIIM proudly recognizes a select group of accredited Health Information Management (HIM) programs as Programs of Distinction, exemplars of best practices in healthcare education. Distinguished programs have demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment as early adopters of the HIM Future Education Model (FEM). These programs have received commendation, the highest level of recognition given by the accreditor.
Alfred State is one of only two schools in New York that are currently recognized as a Program of Distinction and one of thirty-one programs across the United States.
Through innovation and dedication, Programs of Distinction are actively shaping the future of HIM education by:
- Engaging in online forums to share resources, foster collaboration, and exchange ideas with peers and CAHIIM leadership.
- Facilitating robust data collection from students, faculty, adjunct staff, employers, and PPE supervisors to evaluate student outcomes and the effectiveness of the new HIM education model.
- Identifying barriers and evidence-based practices in developing and delivering competency-based education (CBE) in HIM.
- Contributing to the development of new student outcome measures and submitting data aligned with the 2026 HIM Accreditation Standards.
Alfred State’s Health Information Technology A.A.S. degree is one of the programs eligible for the recently announced SUNY Reconnect Program (Read more).
CAHIIM strives to provide the public with effective and consistent quality monitoring of health informatics, health information management, and health science degree programs, as well as digital health and other certificate programs through maintenance of accreditation processes. CAHIIM is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
