The Alfred State College softball team closed out their season this weekend with doubleheader losses to Tompkins Cortland CC and Corning CC. The Lady Pioneers finish the 2011 campaign with a 10-22 overall mark and a 7-15 record in Region III Division III play.
Tompkins Cortland scored four in the 3rd to put game one of Saturday's doubleheader out of reach. The Panthers went on for a 7-2 win. Angie Depew (Wellsville) was 2 for 3 with a RBI while Taylor McCarthy (Watkins Glen) allowed just one earned run in seven innings of work.
ASC fell behind 10-0 in the second game vs. TC3 but kept trying to rally before falling 12-6. Amber Harding (Fillmore) had a big day with three extra base hits (two doubles and a triple) in four plate appearances. Danielle Hill (Addison) was 1 for 3 with a RBI.
On Sunday, Corning scored in every inning en route to a 13-5 victory in game one. Kate Bailey (West Valley) was 3 for 3 with two doubles and a triple while Natalie Sylvester (Perry) and Athena Scavo (Hornell) were each 2 for 3 with a RBI.
In the season finale, ASC collected 13 hits but couldn't push much across. The Lady Pioneers trailed 7-1 heading into the bottom of the 7th and were able to plate three runs but could not get any closer. Tara Scholla (Genesee Valley) was 3 for 4, Harding was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI, and McCarthy was 2 for 3 with a RBI.
