What Happens After a Title VI Complaint Is Submitted?

Once a Title VI complaint is submitted, the following steps generally occur.

Complaint Receipt and Review

The complaint is received and reviewed to determine whether the allegations fall within the scope of Title VI and whether sufficient information has been provided to proceed.

Acknowledgment and Intake

The complainant is notified that the complaint has been received, and additional information may be requested if needed.

Investigation

If the complaint is accepted for review, an impartial investigation will be conducted. This may include interviews with the complainant, respondent, and witnesses, as well as a review of relevant documents and other evidence.

Findings and Determination

Investigators evaluate the evidence and determine whether there is sufficient evidence that a Title VI violation occurred.

Resolution

If a violation is found, appropriate corrective actions will be taken to address the issue and prevent recurrence. In some cases, complaints may be resolved through informal resolution processes when appropriate.

Notification of Outcome

Both the complainant and the respondent will be notified of the outcome of the complaint process, consistent with applicable laws and institutional policies.

Please Note

The timeline for resolving a complaint may vary depending on the complexity of the allegations, the availability of witnesses and evidence, and other relevant factors. The institution strives to address all complaints promptly and fairly.
