Important Message regarding services and COVID-19

Welcome back students!  As you know, the next week will be remote learning for most students as part of the precautionary campus quarantine to safely repopulate our campus and return to in-person instruction on February 1st.  We had a successful move-in weekend and I want to thank you for helping with the expectations around testing.  This testing has thus far prevented 12 active infections from entering the residence hall.  While that is reassuring, please know that some people can test negative at the early pre-symptomatic stages of their infections so you are most safe when you act as if you are in the presence of the infection when not in your own private space.  In addition to return testing requirements, the initial precautionary quarantine includes the following details:

•        There is no inter-building visitation in the residence halls (e.g. Peet to Braddon).

•        There is no in-person dining (all takeout).

•        Students ARE allowed to leave for essential employment.

•        Some offices are using appointments this week to control density in lobbies.

•        The Mail Center will notify you directly when you have a package available. Wait for that notice before coming to retrieve it.

•        Classes are remote unless your curriculum has an exemption that has been communicated to you.

•        Students can go to the store (local plazas) or restaurants but are asked to minimize such trips.

•        The spring reopening plan changes our mask policy and all students are required to wear their mask at all times UNLESS they are in their residence hall room, seated and actively eating in a designated area, or outdoors but alone.

•        Students will be tested weekly and your schedule (or ability to sign up for a time) will be communicated to you by staff this week.

Should we reach 5% positivity, we will need to pivot to remote operations and restrict movements and activities.  It is up to all of us to control the spread.  Thank you for helping!
