This fall Alfred State student-athletes and their teams put together an unforgettable season. In addition to twenty-one Pioneers earning All-Conference honors, three Pioneers and one coach earned major conference awards.
On the football field, Noah Currier led the way for the 5-5 Pioneers as they battled in the Empire 8 for the first time. Currier was named first team running back and all-purpose and second team return specialist. He scored 25 touchdowns (19 rushing, four receiving, and two kickoff returns).
Gage Cornell and Maxwell Clar were both named third-team All-Conference while Jacob Robinson was named to the Empire 8 Tomorrow’s Leaders Team.
Women’s Soccer Coach Anne Holmok was named AMCC Coach of the Year as the Pioneers finished the season 11-7. Erin Drewiega was named first team All-AMCC, Isabella Hoffman and Kendall Decker were each named to the second team, while Karlee Hargather was named third team. The women’s soccer team, the #3 seed, advanced to the AMCC semifinals.
Henry Leahy was named the AMCC Offensive Player of the Year for the 9-4-6 Pioneers. Leahy was also named All-Conference first team after scoring 14 goals and passing out seven assists. Ryan Masi and Liam Fitzpatrick were named second team while David Adedoyin and Will Leahy were third team selections.
Christian Wescott ran to the AMCC title and Runner of the Year honors. Wescott ran the 8k course at Penn State Behrend in 25:17.9 to win the race. Max Knight finished second and earned All-Conference honors. As a team the Pioneers finished as AMCC runner-up.
Oli Kraynik, Hailey Kumpf, and Ava Sylvester ran to All-AMCC honors as the women’s cross country team raced to AMCC runner-up honors.
Gloria Stem was named the AMCC co-Newcomer of the Year following a solid first year on the volleyball court. Stem tallied 314 kills on the season and was joined on the All-Conference second team by teammates Alyana Tomlinson and Erin Gregoire. Gabriella Thurmond was named third team.
In Alfred Cup action, Alfred State holds a 4-2 lead after the fall season following victories over Alfred University in football, men’s soccer, men’s cross country, and women’s cross country.
The winter season is in full swing for Pioneer student-athletes have started competition in basketball, diving, and wrestling. Indoor Track & Field opens their season on Dec. 5.
