The Technology Management program was created to be flexible. It was created to accommodate the working professional. It was created to accommodate the, uh, young novice, someone beginning in their career that wants some business experience. It was created to accommodate the person who’s working, can’t come to campus, and does classes online.
They want to run the business. They want to take charge of their team. They don’t necessarily just want to be one member on the working front line.
I was drawn to the Tech Management degree because it is a bachelor’s degree that has flexibility—um, allowing me to work full-time, cater to the needs of my family, but, um, also be able to complete the work needed to, um, get my bachelor’s degree. And I found it to be, you know, manageable, even with the, you know, very busy life that I lead—as a mother and a, um, you know, a professional.
So the Technology Management program does require students to do an internship, and it’s very helpful so they can get their foot in the door for a lot of jobs in the future. And it’s very beneficial to learn more life skills.
What Tech Management, at this time, has just seemed the best way for me to go. And I actually just take classes during my breaks. I took two last summer because, you know, they have the shorter ones, which is really nice, so I can fit two classes in during the breaks. I did a 4we Management, and then I did another 4we block lack of another class. So that is, I mean, it’s a more intense class, but for me it works out great.

My name is Danielle Green, and I’m an associate professor in the Business Department. I teach court reporting classes and occasionally business classes online.
We are the only court reporting program across all 64 SUNY campuses, so we’re the only SUNY school that offers this program. There’s a huge incentive to come into this program because the workforce demand really needs it. There are reporters that aren’t retiring because there’s nobody to take over when they leave. So we’re trying to encourage people that if you want to learn a skill, this is a good way to learn the skill.
But having said that, it is very rigorous. It’s not an easy program, but it’s definitely achievable.
My classes are set up on a week-by-week basis, and that’s how all of my classes are set up. I let them have access to the course from day one—they can see the entire course, I don’t hide anything. But each module represents a week, and what I do is put the dates next to my modules so that they can keep better track of what module we’re in.
Some of the characteristics that you will see from folks in the program that are successful is they’re resilient. They can learn how to fail and fail forward and just keep moving. So resiliency, grit. If you have a love for English, language, linguistics, phonetics—you would really excel in this program.
Our student population, really the majority of it, is non-traditional students. We do have some traditional-age students coming from high school, but the bulk of our program is made up of those non-traditional students that have work outside of school, that usually have families, and also those making career changes.
The benefits of the program being online are that you don’t have to quit your job to come to school. You don’t have to put your kids in daycare to come to school. You can do it on your own time with instructors that are able, willing, and available to help you.
The most rewarding part of teaching for me would have to be when students finally grasp the concepts, or when they meet their next speed goal, or when they can graduate. Because there can be lows in this program—since it is skill-based and you are learning a new language—sometimes you need a pick-me-up. When they’re having a really bad day and you get to help them through that portion, it makes it even more rewarding to help them through the highs for them.
