Nine members of the Alfred State Archery team recently traveled to Lancaster, PA, to compete in the 50th USA Archery Indoor National Championships. The team held its own against colleges from around the country, and ended up with several strong finishes in both regional and national competitions.

Offering a taste of what they have learned from their hands-on curricula, Alfred State College Culinary Arts students recently taught nearly 200 women how to prepare a delicious and healthy meal for themselves and their families during a Healthy Food and Cooking Preparation Demonstration.

The Alfred State club hockey team capped an impressive season this past weekend by winning the Upstate New York Club Hockey League (UNYCHL) Tier 2 Championship.

Alfred State College President Dr. Skip Sullivan has been recognized by Buffalo Business First as being one of the most influential people in western New York.

Since the 2010-2011 academic year, the Foundation has provided $5,500 annually to the college’s peer tutoring program. As a result, the program has fulfilled more than 925 student requests over the last six years, providing more than 6,428 hours of support.

The Presidential Aspiring Leaders (PAL) Program was created for students who possess a strong work ethic, display commitment and dedication to their studies, are engaged in the community and the college, and are looking to strengthen their leadership skills.

Students within Alfred State College’s various health-focused programs were able to meet with many employers recently during a nursing and medical-related career fair. 

A recent article by NewYorkUpstate.com ranked the village of Alfred No. 1 overall on its list of 40 towns in upstate New York with the most eligible singles.

Alfred State College (ASC) is remembering the life of local businessman and pillar of the Alfred community John Ninos Sr., who passed away on Monday, Feb. 18. 

As part of its Women’s Health Initiative, the Allegany County Department of Health will be hosting a free Healthy Food and Cooking Preparation Demonstration Feb. 26 on Alfred State College’s Wellsville campus.

Graphic arts magazine In-plant Impressions recently published an online article highlighting Alfred State College’s Print and Mail Services (PAMS), specifically PAMS’ role in the school’s rebranding efforts, and its new ability to print name badges. 

Titled “Share the Love,” the drive will take place from Feb. 9-16. Donations of dog/puppy food, blankets, leashes, toys, and more can be made in Room 105 of the Student Leadership Center.

Steven Elwell has come a long way since graduating from Alfred State College with a degree in financial planning in 2007. Originally starting as an intern, Elwell has since worked his way up at Level Financial Advisors to become the company’s chief investment officer (CIO). 

Set for 5-7 p.m. Feb. 14, the dinner is open to the public and will take place at The Rig, which is located inside the Culinary Arts Building on the Wellsville campus. The cost of the meal is $25 for adults and $15 for children 10 and under. No reservations will be accepted.

Alfred State College’s Brittany Richards, coordinator of Student Activities, and Christian Vernam, assistant director of Financial Aid, are among the 16 recent graduates of the Leadership Allegany program.
