The Center for Community Education and Training at Alfred State College will host two informative events that are open to the public in June: “Taking Action for Companion Animals with Libby Post,” and “A Morning with Dr. Bertha Madras: An Opioid Epidemic Seminar.”
Despite a decline in the number of high school graduates in New York State, the ASC orientation class is growing by 15 percent. Alfred State also has a 15 percent increase for incoming students who made their deposit to secure their future as a Pioneer.
Taking place July 29-31, the institute is hosted by the New York State STEM Education Collaborative, and provides a way for kindergarten-through-college-level educators to learn new techniques for engaging students of all ages in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) careers.
Since 2013, Alfred State has been involved in a boiler decentralization project to remove the buildings’ dependency on the heating plant in favor of new energy-efficient boilers.

Alfred State recognized approximately 750 May 2018 graduates during commencement ceremonies on Sunday, May 13. Dr. Skip Sullivan, president, presided over the event, held on the Alfred campus.
This year’s displays highlighted a turbojet engine, building construction projects, a portable snowmaker, an automatic tailgate, civic engagement projects, an emergency housing unit, an innovative motorcycle transporter, and more.

For an entire weekend at the camp, led by Building Trades Assistant Professor Mark Payne, Culinary Arts Instructor Brian Decker, and Building Trades Lecturer Jason Linn, the team of seven ASC students installed a 200-foot French drain, repaired drainage ditches to minimize water damage, completed spring cleanup, and installed a fence to restrict campers to a certain area.
College Consensus confirms that ASC is highly valued by existing students. When it comes to the Student Consensus rating, Alfred State’s score of 75 ranks ASC best in New York among all public colleges and universities of any size.
