Auxiliary Campus Enterprises and Services (ACES) has partnered with Restaurant Technologies on a new cooking oil recycling program at three Alfred State’s dining venues.

Restaurant Technologies delivers fresh clean oil at the same time as picking up the used cooking oil to eliminate double trucks on campus. It also provides a safe way for ACES employees to handle cooking oil both fresh and used.

Before the new technology each of the three locations used 50 jibs of oil a month. The new system will save 150 single-use plastic jugs, eliminate 69 cubic feet in landfill space, and 2,707 lbs. of waste oil will be recycled.

The new system provides a sustainable solution by recycling the waste cooking oil into biodiesel or renewable fuel. Items like cosmetics or toothpaste can be created after the cleaning of the oil. The remaining used oil process creates pure biofuel which can be mixed with conventional diesel to create eco-friendly fuel with low carbon content and does not produce carbon monoxide.

Executive Director of ACES Jonna Anne is excited about this sustainability project. “It is great to partner with Restaurant Technologies to not only eliminate the waste but set up a new system that mitigates the impact of Alfred’s carbon footprint.”
