“My favorite part of the program is all the hands-on experience you get and the skilled clinical instructors that go with you to the facilities. You always have someone who is there to guide you and show you the right way to do things.”

On top of her studies, Ashley has taken a leadership role and serves as a student representative for her class. “My job is to take any concerns that the students may have and bring them to the faculty and together we come up with a good plan because the faculty really does care about what we feel as students.”

This experience has helped her personal growth. “Becoming a student rep has really helped me understand how to professionally communicate concerns. It has also helped improve my communication skills in writing professional emails and filtering through different situations.”

Ashley chose Alfred State because it was close to home, and the family feel that the college and the community has.

She has honed her own skills and helped her classmates by being a tutor. “I have been able to work together with other students in a tutoring like setting so we can all improve our skills and learn together.”

Upon graduation, Ashley would like to become a pediatric nurse and travel internationally to do missionary work.
