Football team wins ECFC title, heading to NCAA Tournament

The Alfred State football team is heading to the NCAA Division III Tournament after defeating Dean College 55-3 in their regular season finale to clinch the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) title. The Pioneers will head to the University of Mount Union (Alliance, OH) for their first-round contest.

Alfred State enters the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history. The Pioneers were 6-4 in the regular season and 3-1 in ECFC play. To win the conference title, ASC had to win their final two games, they defeated Vermont State Castleton 44-8 in their home finale and then sealed the conference title with a dominating 55-3 victory.

Jake Palmer (Albany, NY) has rushed for 14 touchdowns and 817 yards on the year while Jazir Francois (Spring Valley, NY) has 746 yards receiving and ten scores. Justin Horvath has completed 61.9% of his passes for 1,740 yards and 17 touchdowns.

Jeremiah Nixon (Staten Island, NY) leads the defense with 69 tackles while Silas Egenlauf (Spencerport, NY) has 68. Jalen White (Brooklyn, NY) has 5.5 sacks on the year while Rylie Van Fleet (Endwell, NY) has intercepted six passes.

The Pioneers are averaging 341.4 yards per game (164.1 rushing and 177.3 passing) and 32.1 points. They are allowing 345.6 yards per game and 22.5 points.

The football team is the third Alfred State team in school history to play in the NCAA Tournament (volleyball in 2022 and men’s soccer in 2023).

Kickoff at Mount Union is scheduled for Noon on Saturday (11/18).
