Women 7th, Men 9th at U of R Track Meet

The Alfred State College women's track and field team finished 7th out of 15 teams at the University of Rochester Invitational while the men were 9th.  The Pioneers were able to register 10 more NJCAA National Championship performances.

The Alfred State College women's track and field team finished 7th out of 15 teams at the University of Rochester Invitational while the men were 9th.  The Pioneers were able to register 10 more NJCAA National Championship performances.

The women's 4 x 400 relay team of Pam Breedlove (Rochester/East), Briana Dorsey (Rochester/School of the Arts), Tara Murphy (Rochester/Wilson), and Shatara Noble (Rochester/Marshall) broke the school record in winning the race in 4:06.27.

Dorsey won the 200 m dash (26.48) while Murphy won the 800 m (2:20.90).  The 4x100 relay team also won with a time of 50.90 (Breedlove, Dorsey, Noble and Shea McKee).  Breedlove qualified for nationals in the 100 (13.33), Holli Pierce (Livonia) qualified in the triple jump (10.11 m) and the long jump (4.66 m), and Shea McKee (Canisteo Greenwood) qualified in the long jump (4.55 m).

On the men's side, Alex Hewlett (Wellsville) qualified for nationals in the javelin with a 4th place toss of 44.31 m.  Andy Jones (Milford) was 5th in the hammer (46.05 m) while Rawle Crawford (Mt. Vernon) was 4th in the 400 (50.58) and 5th in the 200 (22.57) to qualify.  David Miller (Elmira Southside) was 4th in the pole vault (4.10 m) and qualified for nationals in the 400 hurdles with a 5th place finish (56.93).  Richard McCall (Spotswood, NJ) was 5th in the javelin (44.01 m) to qualify while Tyler Petit (Mexico) ran the steeplechase in 10:35.35, and Alex Farrell (N. Tonawanda) ran the 800 in 2:04.47 to qualify.

The women scored 48 points on the day while the men scored 43.

The team returns to action next Sunday at the SUNY Brockport Invitational.
