The Alfred State College men's soccer team had a terrific season come to an end on Sunday in a 5-0 loss to Herkimer CCC, #1 seeded and #2 ranked in Division III of the NJCAA, in the Region III Division III Championship game.  The Pioneers, #2 seeded and #5 ranked, finish the most successful campaign since the late 1980's with a 14-4 mark.

The Alfred State College men's soccer team had a terrific season come to an end on Sunday in a 5-0 loss to Herkimer CCC, #1 seeded and #2 ranked in Division III of the NJCAA, in the Region III Division III Championship game.  The Pioneers, #2 seeded and #5 ranked, finish the most successful campaign since the late 1980's with a 14-4 mark.

Herkimer was able to control the ball and the pace of the game.  The Generals scored two goals in the first half and added three insurance goals in the second.

Dan Fabiny (Wellsville) made ten saves in net for the Pioneers.  Fabiny and Koya Takadama (Soma, Japan) were both named to the all-tournament team.

The loss was the first for the Pioneers to a Division III opponent since the opening week of the season.  The team finishes the year with a 14-2 mark in Division III contests.  The Pioneers also entered the game on a seven game shutout string and had not allowed a goal since September 24.
