Pioneers Fall in Final Home Dual

Mercyhurst North East won the final four matches of the evening as they defeated Alfred State 38-15 in the Pioneers final home dual of the season. Alfred is now 4-4 (1-4 WNYAC) on the season in dual action while Mercyhurst is now 5-6 (5-1 WNYAC).

Mercyhurst North East won the final four matches of the evening as they defeated Alfred State 38-15 in the Pioneers final home dual of the season.  Alfred is now 4-4 (1-4 WNYAC) on the season in dual action while Mercyhurst is now 5-6 (5-1 WNYAC).

The Saints jumped out to a 11-0 lead via a tech fall by Aaron Smith at 125 and a Pioneer forfeit victory at 133.  Justin Hunt (Ripley) got the blue & gold on the board with a 6-0 decision over Aaron Lett at 141 lbs. 

At 149, #4 ranked Tyler Peet (Unadilla Valley) matched up with #3 ranked Vincent DiGravio.  DiGravio led 4-0 midway through the third period when Peet was able to make an impressive move that led to a pin with just 34 seconds remaining in the match.  With the win, Peet improves to 12-2 on the year.

MNE won the next match at 157 to increase their lead to 15-9 but Alfred tied it up at 165 when Josh Simons (Campbell Savona) received a forfeit victory.

The Saints took over after that and won two of the final matches by pinfall, one by tech fall, and the fourth by forfeit.

Alfred State returns to action on Saturday when they close out the regular season with a WNYAC dual vs. Niagara CCC.  Action is slated for 2 p.m.
