Lady Pioneers Split with Niagara

The Alfred State College softball team split a pair of WNYAC contests on Tuesday at Niagara CCC.  The Thunder Wolves rallied for a 7-5 victory in game one while ASC used a eight-run 5th inning en route to a 11-2 victory in game two.

The Alfred State College softball team split a pair of WNYAC contests on Tuesday at Niagara CCC.  The Thunder Wolves rallied for a 7-5 victory in game one while ASC used a eight-run 5th inning en route to a 11-2 victory in game two.

ASC jumped held a 5-0 lead in the opener but NCCC scored five in the 5th to tie it and won it on a walk-off two-run homer in the bottom of the 7th.  Natalie Sylvester (Perry) and Angie Depew (Wellsville) were each 2 for 4.

In the nightcap, ASC scored two in the 4th to grab a 3-2 lead and then put the game out of reach with eight runs in the 5th.  Kate Bailey (West Valley) was 3 for 4 with 2 RBI, Tara Scholla (Genesee Valley) was 3 for 4, and Amber Harding (Fillmore) was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI.  Pam Rupp (Cattaraugus Little Valley) didn't allow an earned run in five innings of work to earn the victory.

The Lady Pioneers (6-10, 3-5 Region III Division III) return to action on Thusday when they host Genesee CC at 3 p.m.
