Anthia Smith (Elmira Free) recorded another double-double as the Alfred State College women's basketball downed Erie CC 70-47 in a WNYAC contest on Thursday.  A-State improves to 14-6 (5-2 WNYAC) while Erie falls to 3-19 (1-7 WNYAC).

Anthia SmithAnthia Smith (Elmira Free) recorded another double-double as the Alfred State College women's basketball downed Erie CC 70-47 in a WNYAC contest on Thursday.  A-State improves to 14-6 (5-2 WNYAC) while Erie falls to 3-19 (1-7 WNYAC).

Smith was 9 for 15 from the field and grabbed 18 rebounds (seven offensive & 11 defensive) to pace the Lady Pioneers.  Tiffany McLaughlin (Wellsville) added 16 points and five assists while Kristin Abbott (Webster Thomas) finished with eight points.  Ten of the eleven Lady Pioneers that dressed scored.

Kayla Mahiques led Erie with 17 points while Jackee Thompson chipped in nine points.  Kamalah Poles finished with eight points and 14 boards for the Lady Kats.

ASC led 31-20 but went on a run to start the 2nd half to put the game out of reach.  The Lady Pioneers shot 40.3% from the field and 70% from the foul line while Erie shot just 25.8% from the field and 66.7% from the foul line.  The Kats turned the ball over 24 times and were outrebounded 56 to 43.

The Lady Pioneers return to action on Saturday when they host Division I power Monroe CC at 1 p.m. at the Orvis Activities Center.
