The Alfred State College women's basketball team opened up the 2009 season with a heartbreaking 68-67 loss at Broome CC.  Broome rallied from a halftime deficit and scored the game deciding foul shots with under fifteen seconds left in the game.

The Alfred State College women's basketball team opened up the 2009 season with a heartbreaking 68-67 loss at Broome CC.  Broome rallied from a halftime deficit and scored the game deciding foul shots with under fifteen seconds left in the game.

The Lady Pioneers trailed early in the first half but went on a 26 to 5 run to close out the half with a 41-29 lead.  Broome chipped away at the ASC lead the whole second half and tied the contest in the final minute.  BCC was able to capitalize on one of two foul shots with the game tied at 67-67 to gain back the lead.  Alfred had a shot to win but the attempt did not fall.

Brittney Brooks (Elmira Free) led the blue & gold with 25 points while Megan Coates (Nazareth) and Shawna McNeil (Hornell) finished with 10 points each.  Amanda Blake (Cuba Rushford) finished with nine points.

Alfred opens up the home portion of their 2009-10 schedule on Thursday when they host Corning CC.  Opening tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
