Alfred State’s close-knit community felt like home and its reputation for hands-on learning matched Jaelyn Benjamin-Wilson’s (Allegany, NY) learning style. At ASC, she is pursuing dual bachelor’s degrees in civil engineering technology and construction management, combining two fields that will prepare her to design and build the infrastructure of tomorrow.

Jaelyn discovered her passion for civil engineering through a high school bridge design project. Once at Alfred State, she expanded his interests by adding Construction Management to gain a deeper understanding of both the design and construction sides of the industry.
She enjoys the blended approach of classroom instruction and extensive laboratory experiences. "The labs are where everything comes together. You learn it in class, then you get to apply it in a real-world setting."
Jaelyn credits Alfred State's faculty for their industry expertise and commitment to student success.
"My professors have opened so many doors. They have connected me with alumni and employers. They helped me land opportunities I never imagined."
Outside the classroom, she serves as a resident assistant, president of Alfred State's student chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), and vice president of the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) student chapter.
These leadership roles have expanded his professional network while strengthening his communication and leadership skills.
