Welcome from
Dr. Skip Sullivan

Greetings alumni, faculty, staff, and friends,

Dr. Skip Sullivan, President
Dr. Skip Sullivan, President

As many of you know by now, I have decided with mixed emotions to retire from the presidency at Alfred State College. With that being said, I wanted to take this opportunity to tell you all that I am extremely honored to have served as your president for the past seven and a half years.

During this time, I have had the pleasure of engaging with so many terrific students. It has been exciting to watch them grow and become successful young professionals who are now changing lives for the better thanks to Alfred State and particularly their professors. Our faculty’s hands-on, student-first approach to teaching makes all the difference.

I have also had the honor and privilege to meet and interact with hundreds of alums over the years. Working with the alumni of Alfred State College has been one of the many highlights of my time here and I have always enjoyed learning about the ways that Alfred State changed their lives.

Under the new leadership, ASC will continue to change lives and produce successful graduates who go out and make a positive impact on the world. Dr. Skip Sullivan

Being a life changer is something we do every day here at Alfred State, and a major reason why is the support of our donors. Thanks to your generosity, we are able to provide scholarships, athletics, new programs, technology, and more in order to give our students the best experience possible. I have had the pleasure of meeting many of our donors during my time as president and I thank you very much for your support of Alfred State College.

With this issue of the Alumni and Friends Magazine, we are encouraging each one of you to “Become a Life Changer” and do something to make a positive impact on somebody else.

One of the biggest ways to do this is by donating to our Major Gifts Campaign. In this issue, you will read about several donors who have stepped up in a big way by making a major gift, including Joe Laraiso, who is a member of M&C Utilities, LLC; Gary Hill, the president of Union Concrete and Construction Corp.; and the Wamp family, including Tom, Joan, and Mark Wamp. You’ll also read about faculty member Dr. Reza Rashidi, whose work with tiny devices is making a big impact on students and the world.

While I may be stepping down as president, I can assure you that the future of Alfred State College is bright, and its direction is intact. Under the new leadership, ASC will continue to change lives and produce successful graduates who go out and make a positive impact on the world.

I am grateful to SUNY, appreciative of the employees of Alfred State College, honored to have met so many excellent students, and proud of our graduates. I wish all the best for this great institution.

Respectfully,

Dr. Skip Sullivan, President
