Alfred State’s Annual Golf Tournament raises over $30,000

For the seventh year in a row, dozens of golfers came together to have fun and support Alfred State College by playing in the school’s annual Pioneers Drive for the Development Fund golf tournament.

Presented by Mach Architecture, this year’s tournament took place June 18 at the Wellsville Country Club. A total of 31 teams competed and raised more than $30,000 in cash and gifts in kind. Proceeds from the event will help fund student scholarships, athletics, and other needs of the college.

Earning the coveted blue jacket as the winners of the golf tournament were the members of the Campus Construction team – Kevin Donaghue, John Langdon, Jason Hanon, and Tim McCardle. The second-place Maple City Savings team included Nick Kelley, Julianna Gibson, Raymie Auman, and Dustin Kelley, while the Level Financial team of Steve Elwell, Andrew Reisman, Nick Smith, and Andy Smith placed third.

The top three teams took home $500, $300, and $200, respectively. In addition, the tournament featured a silent auction, a number of skills prizes, and a barbecue.

Event sponsors ($2,500) this year included Pepsi Co.; Manning & Napier; U&S Services; Otis Eastern; Savarino; Pathfinder Engineers & Architects.; Corning, Inc.; and Laborers No. 621. Eagle sponsors ($1,000) included IBEW Local No. 86, Elderwood of Hornell, West Herr Ford, and Lincoln & Mercury.

Contest sponsors ($500) were National Fuel, Decorator’s Choice, and Union Concrete. Additionally, the event featured 25 hole sponsors ($150).

Alfred State Director of Development Jason Sciotti said, “It was great to be able to get the 2021 edition of our Pioneer Drive for the Development Fund golf event back to the way we want it to be: a huge group of supporters and players, fun activities taking place on the course during the day, and interactions that brought out so many smiles and laughs. The highlight of the day was a ‘Beat the AD (athletic director)’ challenge on a par-3 hole for a chance to win cash. We were very excited to offer over 65 door prizes at this year’s tournament and would like to say thanks to our amazing donors and sponsors.”

Sciotti also extended thanks to everyone else who helped make the tournament a success.

“I can’t thank our Alfred State staff and the Wellsville Country Club enough for all the work put into this day,” he said. “The funds being raised will go to the Alfred State athletics program, scholarships, and the future of the college for the betterment of our students. We’re already looking forward to Pioneer Drive 2022!”

Alfred State’s Day of Giving raises over $230,000

Thanks to another amazing show of support from alumni, faculty, staff, and friends, Alfred State College (ASC) was able to raise $231,525 this year during its sixth annual Day of Giving. Funds donated from this yearly event benefit scholarships, new programs, updated technology, athletics, and so much more.

A Decade Challenge highlighted the 2021 Day of Giving. Alumni & friends were encouraged to indicate a decade to support. The ‘50s/’60s took home the bragging rights with 135 donors and will be recognized with a brick in the alumni plaza and acknowledged in the 2021 alumni magazine. The ‘70s were a close second with 103 donors and the ‘80s had 66 donors.

Day of Giving

Alfred State Director of Development Jason Sciotti, said, “This year’s Day of Giving brought some fun and excitement back to the campus. Students filled the Student Leadership Center throughout the day with our clubs and organizations providing activities, food, and entertainment. We really wanted to get back to teaching our students what the day means and how philanthropy is so important to the success of our students. The most enjoyable part of our annual Day of Giving was having our students sign the thank you donor banner.”

He continued, “With overwhelming support and generosity, we were able to not only reach but exceed our goal of more than 400 donors. The day was a success and that only happens when the campus community and our donors come together. A sincere thanks to them all.”

Throughout the week, the Institutional Advancement Office requested nonperishable and personal care items to help replenish the on-campus food pantry, the PLATE. The PLATE is a joint initiative of Student Senate and the Center for Civic Engagement seeking to address the challenge of food insecurity.
