The federal government is promising a new application process for financial aid that is simpler with more money for more students. Unfortunately, this transition has delayed the start of the usual application season. FAFSA apps are now scheduled to be available by December 31.

With the shortened window to apply, it’s even more important to be ready. Read more advice from Alfred State’s financial aid experts and find out more ways that ASC is helping.

‘Tis the season for final exams and the holidays… and both can lead to more stress. We believe that “Mental Health is Health.” Alfred State just celebrated with a De-Stress Fest to keep everyone in a good frame of mind for finals week and held a special late-night breakfast to fuel those studying.

University Police also showed they truly care about helping students in need. If a student donated $10 of food to help the hungry, UPD forgave one outstanding parking ticket for the donor.

The recent shooting on the UNLV campus is a tragic reminder for how important it is to be prepared for the unimaginable.  Each fall, ASC holds a shelter-in-place drill, response times and other measures are evaluated for improvement, and college leadership practices the use of FEMA’s Incident Command System.

Alfred State advocates for safety improvements in the surrounding community too. The Village of Alfred is currently adding enhanced lighting and camera surveillance adjacent to the campus. UPD also emphasizes that students are partners in safety and crime prevention.

Online winter classes are available right now with registration open until Dec. 21. That is also the date for fall semester grades to be posted by 11 a.m.

The big dates coming up on our calendar are all about registering for spring classes and the start of another great semester. Registration is open now through Jan. 19 which is also the first day for residence halls to open. Hard to believe, but it won’t be long until the Jan. 22 start of classes.

You might not be thinking about it now, but while students are home for the holidays, it’s a good time to consider summer internship opportunities in your hometown. Companies benefit from student workers who are studying to become professionals ready for the workforce. Read more about how employers are eager to hire and how our career development office can help.

It’s great to hear directly from our students about why they chose Alfred State and how hands-on experience prepares them for a career.

We recently talked with Mattison who brags about working with professors who have professional criminal justice experience. Xavier finds it fun exploring the technology available in labs for CNC manufacturing. JoAnna loves being able to learn both architecture and interior design at ASC.

With about $100 million in campus construction projects, it is so satisfying to see the progress. More than half of the campus loop road has widened streets and sidewalks with new underground infrastructure and 130+ new trees. More new rooms are opening at the beautiful MacKenzie Residence Halls, and we will start rebuilding our Agriculture Science classes and labs this summer.

Alfred State is also starting new athletic programs, upgrading sports facilities, and developing plans for a new field house to continue our momentum for even more success.

As students head home for the holidays, we hope everyone enjoys the break. At ASC we want to show gratitude to everyone in the Pioneer Family and we’re busy preparing to make 2024 a great new year. We appreciate how families help students rejuvenate and come back to campus even stronger.
