Nizair already has a job lined up as a diesel technician at Milton CAT once he graduates.
While enrolled in an automotive program at another college, Nizair Evans decided he wanted a major that was more hands-on and wouldn’t require him to take any electives.
The perfect fit: Alfred State College’s (ASC) heavy equipment, truck and diesel technician program.
Nizair had heard about the program and decided to check it out for himself on a tour. After that, he was sold.
“What stood out to me was how hands-on things were and how professional the people were. When I got here, I came through the shop and everybody would talk to me, everybody was nice, and everybody was straight up with me. I understood completely what my job would be here, and I was fine with that.”
Getting a hands-on education doing what he loves – working on large vehicles – has proven to be very beneficial for Nizair.
“My knowledge is through the roof now. Before, when I first got here, I had just a basic overall knowledge of my field. Now, I can completely diagnose and go into depth about what I need to do if there’s a problem.”
Nizair, who already has a job lined up as a diesel technician at Milton CAT once he graduates, strongly recommends his program to interested students.
“If you want to take your career path seriously, you need to come here.”
