Erie CC jumped out to a 14-2 lead and held a 32-18 halftime lead but had to hold off a valiant comeback attempt by Alfred State in a 61-53 victory. The Lady Kats improve to 12-4, 3-0 Region III Division II while the Lady Pioneers are 10-5, 2-1.
After shooting just 26.7% and turning the ball over 25 times in the 1st half, the Lady Pioneers turned things around after the halftime break. The blue & gold trailed by as many as 17 in the 2nd but cut the Kats lead to 56-53 with just under three minutes left. The Kats would hold the Pioneers the rest of the way to earn the victory.
Charmaine Weaver led Erie with 12 points while Kadijah Kidd finished with nine points and eight boards. Bethany Hall added eight. Eleven different Lady Kats registered points.
Haley Witchella (Oxford Academy) recorded another double-double with 14 points and 18 rebounds. Jennifer Fedrick (Buffalo/Bennett) added 13 points and seven boards.
Alfred returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Monroe CC for a 6 p.m. with the Lady Tribunes.
