"I don't know if there is another college in the nation sitting in a small town that offers you the best experiences in the nation.”
Madisyn Herman

A trio of Alfred State students are in New Orleans, LA this week to cover the Super Bowl. The group, all members of the student content creation club Bandwagon, are covering the big game alongside media outlets from all over the world.
Bandwagon, led by their advisor John Anderson, is a group of students that are interested in creating content through social media, shows and podcasts, journalism, graphic design, photography, and video editing. Club president Madisyn Herman (Cherry Creek, NY), Julius Korytkowski (Olean, NY), and Douglas Premo (Heuvelton, NY) are located on Media Row right near Sirius XM, the NFL Network, and the Pat McAfee Show.
Herman, a sport management major, is excited to gather content at the Super Bowl to add to her Alfred State experience. "Our advisor, John Anderson, has been in the media and sports marketing for years, and seems to have a thousand connections. He knows the lay of the land for sports media and told us we would be covering Super Bowl festivities. He made it happen, and covering opening night is an experience like none other. And we are only on our first day!"
"I don't know if there is another college in the nation sitting in a small town that offers you the best experiences in the nation,” continued Herman. “Joining Bandwagon has been the perfect complement to my sports management major. Our professors, Tony Aquilina and Brandon Harris were able to get us incredible partnerships with the Buffalo Bills. I toured the stadium, locker room and then had an opportunity to work NFL home games and see how a professional organization runs on game day."
In addition to gaining experience at the Super Bowl, Herman has photographed countless ASC athletic events including the college’s trips to the NCAA Football and Soccer Championships
Korytkowski is a Health Information Technology major and the Bandwagon Studio Manager. He has taken on tough issues on and off campus with the Real Talk podcast. This week he has interviews lined up with health care professionals and former NFL players who will be discussing medical issues including concussions.
"I'm going into the healthcare field; I like data integrity and informatics. I love videography and journalism, and both are helpful in the sports industry. At Bandwagon, I enjoy the process of journalism, I like talking to students about a good point of view. Having John Anderson's knowledge of how to conduct yourself at events and do interviews has been invaluable."
Korytkowski continued, "Getting content and covering events at the Super Bowl falls in line with being proactive. Too many people wait around to do things and never do them their whole lives. I think trying new things is a big step. If I fail or succeed, I want to try something new and deliver a product to the best of my abilities."
Premo, a Graphic and Media Design major, wants to work for a social media team or a design firm. "Bandwagon has allowed me to have this creative outlet outside of the work I do in class. I'm getting training for real-world applications. It's almost like a professional internship.”
Premo added "At the Super Bowl, I stepped out of my comfort zone and actually interviewed players from the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles on Super Bowl Opening Night. Now I'm excited to get content out on our Instagram page (@ascbandwagon) and we are also going create shows for our YouTube channel.”
Anderson has been a credentialed NFL Reporter for thirty-three years. He started covering the Buffalo Bills during their Super Bowl runs for the Wellsville Daily Reporter. A two-time national columnist of the year, he has won numerous awards for his social media, videography, breaking news, feature writing, and sports reporting. He has made appearances on CNBC’s American Greed and has been a correspondent on CNN, Fox News, and the Weather Channel.
The Alfred State group arrived in New Orleans on Sunday and will take part in Super Bowl activities throughout the week.
