“When I came and met the professors, I just knew this is where I wanted to be. They really care about what they’re teaching, and it’s not something you always find with professors. They’re passionate about the subject, and they care about you as an individual.”

Rebecca Randall (Prattsburgh, NY) has always dreamed of working with animals. That passion led her to Alfred State’s veterinary technology program, which she chose for its hands-on approach and the renowned quality of education.

“I’ve always wanted to work with animals,” Rebecca shares. “Alfred State stood out to me because it has the third-best veterinary technology program in the country, and not many places close to home can say that.”

Rebecca quickly found that the program’s hands-on approach was everything for which she had hoped. The opportunity to work directly with animals from the start was one of the key reasons she chose Alfred State.

“My favorite thing about the vet tech program is the hands-on experience. In my large animal science class, we were doing blood draws on chickens by the second week of class. That’s not something a lot of programs can say they offer,” she explains.

Rebecca appreciates the way the program blends classroom learning with practical application. “We learn something in the classroom, and then the same week, we’re executing it in the lab. That hands-on approach is what really sets this program apart.”

The professors have added to Rebecca’s experience. “When I came and met the professors, I just knew this is where I wanted to be. They really care about what they’re teaching, and it’s not something you always find with professors. They’re passionate about the subject, and they care about you as an individual.”

Rebecca values the unique opportunities that Alfred State offers. “Even if your interest lies in small animals, you're still working with large animals. I think that’s unique to our program. It gives us a well-rounded experience.”

She has an interest in animal behavior and looks forward to simply helping animals.

“I would recommend the Alfred State vet tech program to anyone who is driven and a self-starter. It’s perfect for people who are ambitious and really want to make a difference in the lives of animals and their owners.”
