“It is a really good education. You build so much experience here and just having Alfred State on your resume is big. It is two years, but you get a lot of education and knowledge in two years.”

Jack LaRouech (East Aurora, NY) took building trades classes in high school but wanted to expand his knowledge. He has enjoyed growing his skills as a building trades: building construction major at Alfred State.

“I took BOCES during high school and I wanted to get a bigger version of it and get to see every part of it. I have always had a heart for construction. I did mission trips growing up and we started by building decks and re-doing houses.”

After learning in the classroom in lecture, Jack likes going immediately to the job site. “You are able to get hands-on. You are either going to a house or to other projects. You are always staying busy, which is nice because on a job site you are going be busy.”

The professors have added to his experience. “My professors have so much knowledge in different areas. They have so much information and knowledge to share with you.”

Jack has enjoyed working on the house projects that students on the Wellsville campus take part in yearly. “My favorite experience is being able to see what you are building go from ground level or basement straight to framing into a house.”

The experience he is gaining excites Jack. “It is a really good education. You build so much experience here and just having Alfred State on your resume is big. It is two years, but you get a lot of education and knowledge in two years.”

“I have enjoyed Alfred so much; I have been deeply considering doing a 2+2 program and either getting a construction management or supervision degree. If I get the business knowledge and skills it will help me towards owning my own business.”

Outside the classroom, Jack keeps himself busy by serving as a campus ambassador, being involved in the camping/hiking club, and enjoying the camaraderie of his brothers in the Gamma Theta Gamma fraternity. “I have always enjoyed staying involved. I love being up and doing something.”
